achievements just keep on coming for The South Devon Players theatre company in
Brixham.
The South
Devon Players, an amateur theatre company from Brixham, specialising primarily
in the history and legends of the Southwest, will soon be making their debut on
national TV.
Filmed in
July 2012 for an episode of BBC's Escape To The Country, following the house
hunting search of a couple looking to move to the South Devon area, with a
strong interest in amateur dramatics, members of the South Devon Players joined
the couple in the episode, and the BBC TV team to film rehearsals and a
performance of a scene of their coming
spring 2013 play The Ballad of
Resurrection Bob, a show telling the tale of Brixham's historic smuggler Resurrection Bob
Elliott, at the Rising Sun pub in Brixham.
The Escape
to the Country team have recently phoned the South Devon Players, with the news
that the episode will be aired on BBC 1 for the first time on January 16th
at 2.15 in the afternoon.
This
national television debut adds to a very exciting winter for the South Devon
Players. In January they will be performing their winter show A Medieval Christmas 1285, by far their most ambitious show to date,
telling the historical story of King Edward I's visit to Devon that winter,
along with live medieval harp music, carols, mummer, dance and drama in a
two-and-a-half hour show, between January 11th (Paignton) January 12th (Brixham),
Janaury 13th (Torquay),
followed shortly on January 23rd with the open public auditions in
Brixham for the full stage show of The
Ballad of Resurrection Bob to be
performed towards the end of April around Torbay. (more show and audition
information available from the Players website at http://southdevonplayers.weebly.com)
