Good selection of books, CDs, etc on offer and if a book you want is not in stock, they will order it for you and usually have it available within 48 hours. They often organise book signing sessions where you can ‘meet and greet’ your favourite author. They also promote local authors, poets and writers. The bookshop is very easy to find, opposite the main Post Office in Paignton.

Just what a local shop should be. The Torbay Bookshop is welcoming, efficient, friendly and personal. Nothing seems too much trouble here. This is just the way things should be

The most posts for a reason

The shop has the most posts that I have seen on this site and there's a reason for that. It's a bookshop the way that they should be!
It's the last stand against a growing trend on internet sales. Support Matthew and his team and you won't be dissapointed.

top shop!

A great local shop with much ambition. As well as an ever-improving stock they have a number of local and national celebrity’s that come in and do book signings. The staff are very knowledgeable.

A Paignton bookshop that should be best in Britain!

Felt compelled to write this after buying some Christmas presents at Torbay Bookshop in town today. In my view it really would be deserving of such a title! All the staff here are excellent and will go at great lengths to help you find the book you're after - if it's in print they'll make sure you'll have it in time to wrap up for Christmas!

The personal touch

This place is owned by a gentleman called Matthew Clark who is always friendly and helpful and really knows his business. It is an independent book shop that has been voted independent Bookseller of the Year many times.

As has been said, take in any ISBN number or obscure title and he will source it for you and I have never been disappointed. He was great when I was doing my dissertation with suggesting other reading that might help.

Amazon eat your heart out!

I echo the other comment about this great independant bookshop.

All the staff have a real interest in books and literature in general so whenever I go in with some obscure reference or ISBN number they always come up with the goods and also suggest other reading material based on its content and suitability as opposed to what or what's not selling well (Amazon and Play hold your hands up).

My dear old mum once met the green fingered Alan Titchmarsh here for a book signing too which I think says it all for the high quality of this bookworm paradise.

A gem

Great variety both in store and online. Really good to see a local store doing so well in the wake of corporate giants.

Thankfully it maintains a regional feel and has many guest signings and local events.

Very helpful and friendly staff too.
