Now is the time to consider potential schools and make sure applications are sent in on time.
Torbay Council publishes the comprehensive free booklet TIPS 1, Secondary Admissions 2011/12, which contains all the information parents need about their child starting secondary school. The booklet is available to download from www.torbay.gov.uk. Paper copies are also available in all primary schools or can be requested by telephoning Torbay Children’s Services 01803 208908.
Torbay Council's Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Anna Tolchard said: “We'd like to ask parents to apply for a school place by 31 October. We are pleased to offer an online facility which gives parents an increased amount of choice and flexibility when applying for their children's school place.
“Torbay has a transparent and fair application system for secondary school admissions, and we guarantee to provide a secondary school place for every child in the Bay."
Torbay Council admissions officers are available to help parents through the admissions process. Parents can telephone 01803 208908, email school.admissions@torbay.gov.uk or visit the office at Oldway Mansion, Paignton.

A friend who has moved to the area with her daughter and grandson has asked me if Paignton College is any good? Is there another option if you don't want your child to go there, but they don't pass the 11+ in order to go to Torquay Boys' Grammar School? It always concerns me when towns only have one secondary school - where is the motivation to be the best?! My friend would really appreciate some feedback from parents who've recently put their children through Paignton College or other local secondary schools.
