It is my home town: with good schools, parks, beaches, sportsgrounds, fireworks, cinemas, cafes and lots of happy holiday makers. It is within easy reach of the characterful Brixham, elegant Torquay and intellectual Totnes. Exeter and Plymouth are just an hour or so away and London beckons like a beacon. And yes there's a steam train to Dartmouth!
I have lived in better places but Paignton is best for those lazy hazy days of summer.. People think I'm too serious when I criticise how Paignton has changed and they don't want to know what visitors tell me what they think about the place. Americans have told me this place is so boring that half the time the seagulls just walk about the town centre looking for scraps and handouts just like the locals. Unfortunately the price of progress meant the end of our natural local brickworks, potteries etc .
