Local police tackling the problem.
"The constant issue of dog fouling in the area has been highlighted as a key priority by the local community” explained Sgt Sally Craxford.
To address the problem, the police team is working with the local council who are issuing spot fines of £30 to offending dog owners. The police operation includes increased patrols by both uniformed and non-uniformed officers, as well as irresponsible dog owners being advised about the responsibilities of dog ownership.
“It’s important that dog owners equip themselves with disposal bags when they take their dogs for walks” says Sgt Craxford.
“Whilst residents have commented that the problem is resolved when there is a police presence, its vital that dog owners embrace their responsiblieis as routine practice. Most dog owners are responsible, it’s a careless few who are giving dog owners a bad name” says Sgt Craxford.
The key message to dog owners is ‘bag it and bin it’. The police initiative coincides with the national Poop Scoop Week, which commences July 26.
Local people are being asked to report any dog owners who are causing an offence to their local policing team on Tel: 01803 860438.
Are there any other such dog-fowling problem areas in Paignton for the police to know about?
