In response to today’s announcement regarding transport infrastructure funding, Torbay MP Adrian Sanders said the following:

“It is important to remember that the bypass is only postponed, not cancelled.  The announcement is not good news but Torbay and Devon councils must now put all their efforts into bidding for funding not only from the Government but also from other sources.”

Totnes MP Dr Sarah Wollaston said:

“Clearly this is disappointing as we have to continue with the long campaign but the Minister has agreed to meet with MPs and councillors, so the fight continues.”

Newton Abbot MP Anne Marie Morris added:

“We’ve worked hard together to ensure this long awaited scheme finally sees the light of day.  Following the Ministerial Statement in the House today, I have secured a further meeting for Adrian Sanders, Sarah Wollaston and myself to meet with Norman Baker MP together with Devon County Council to look at  producing the updated appraisal which is needed to make it clear beyond doubt that this scheme is not only urgently needed but offers value for money.  A further review will now take place in January next year to determine whether this scheme can be upgraded to fall within the development pool”
