  • TV 'theft' con

    A PAIGNTON woman tried to dupe police over the 'theft' of a television. She claimed thieves had stolen the TV by taking it out through the lounge window of her home. But suspicious police measured the window and discovered it was smaller than the TV. The set was eventually found hidden under a bed upstairs. The woman was given an on-the-spot fine. Police said the woman was lucky to escape more serious action. See Page 3.

    A woman aged 28 has died after being struck by a train in the Westcountry. Paramedics were called to railway tracks close to Newton Abbot station on Thursday and found the woman badly-injured but still breathing.     NEIGHBOURS feared that an elderly, infirm woman may have been trapped when they heard smoke alarms going off in Eaton Place, St Michael's, Paignton.     AN elderly man was taken to hospital after falling down steps over the railway line at Paignton. He suffered head and leg injuries and was taken to Torbay Hospital for treatment.
