Well, If you want to enjoy your stay in Paignton, DO NOT stay at the Bayside Villa apartments. I booked a week's holiday for a family of four here. I sent my cheque and a week later I rang to confirm it had been received and to finalise the details of the booking, I was advised by the ever unhelpful Pam that my cheque hadn't arrived and that she had rented the room to someone else as she presumed I didn't want it!!! She then offered me a free upgrade to a 3 bedroomed apartment at no extra cost for the inconvenience. However, upon arrival, she informed me that she didn't have time to set up the 3rd bedroom so the children would have to share. Not wanting to ruin the holiday, we accepted this. As we walked in the apartment, there was a strong smell of what can only be described as a combination of damp and cat urine! On closer inspection, there were damp patches and mould around all of the windows and on the bathroom ceiling. There were also pet hairs on the sofa throws and broken furniture (bottoms of drawers coming off, wardrobe door hanging off, broken slat on child's bed). Determined not to have our holiday ruined, we cleaned it up as best we could and tried to enjoy ourselves. However, a couple of days later it rained and water started to pour in right above the open electric box. I tried to ring Pam but couldn't get through so I left a message and sent a text for her to come and sort it out while we went out. Her excuse was that a ball had got stuck on the roof and water had backed up. I asked her to meet me at the apartment and expressed how unhappy I was about everything. She denied that the place had a damp problem and said she thought it was a lovely apartment!! I told her I wanted to leave and wanted a refund, to which she refused. She advised she would come the next day and have all the carpets cleaned and would clean up the mould (which she claimed was due to condensation). Not being able to afford to stay anywhere else, we accepted this. She also promised to "treat" us to dinner for which she would put an envelope under the door. The envelope arrived 2 days later containing a mere £20!! Hardly a meal for 4???? And to top it off, we found fleas in the apartment and my partner was covered in bites! Needless to say, I will not be staying at the Bayside Villa again - or any other property belonging to Pam Butterworth!!
