Safe or not?

Despite frigid health and safety regulations the law can sometimes be an ass regarding what is and isn’t safe.

Take a local residents overhanging hedge for instance, extending out well over a foot on a three foot pathway along the main road with busy buses and traffic running constantly

People sometimes risk their lives in having to avoid the offending hedge but if they don’t watch their heads they are liable to get a nasty gash from the badly tendered thick stems jutting out (see picture)

I spoke to Torbay Highways man Ian Sanders about it. He reckoned it wasn’t dangerous.

I challenged him to come and have a look with me, he agreed but still held the view there was no danger.

He asked a passing elderly lady what she thought, her reply was yes that it was very dangerous!

So yes the law is an ass.

I am seeing how the hedge grows further before I take it up with the Health and Safety department.

I think what it is they are unable, as motorists, to realise the danger to pedestrians. especially to the elderly, many of whom use this pathway - and if you are tall you really have to swerve to miss those jagged edges!

It looks dangerous to me. Not surprised the penny pinching authorities can't see it though...
