Firework displays in Paignton on Bonfire Night 2010

Well it’s that time of year again when Guy Fawkes and co are remembered for the Gunpowder Plot on November 5 and we celebrate this with fireworks, bonfires and the odd Catherine wheel or two.

But… Where are the nearest organised firework displays in Paignton this year?

Well I have been searching the length and breadth of our fine town over the last week to reveal… that there are strangely no Bonfire night events planned for next weekend??

I didn’t realise that poor old Guy was affected by the credit crunch too but no need to worry as I’ve located some fantastic evenings of exploding entertainment going on in neighbouring Torquay and Totnes!

First prize for the most enticing event must go to Woodlands Adventure Park who are putting on a Pirates Revenge Fireworks Festival on Saturday 6 November.

baaaddad on Totnes People invites us to: “Dress up as a pirate in the fancy dress competition before joining the ‘March of the Pirates’ to light the Bonfire at around 6:30pm.

“Children are encouraged to make their own Guy at home with prizes for the best efforts and there is an excellent bill of entertainment including Ben the Master Juggler, Spangles the Clown and a live jazz band.

“Not forgetting as Carlsberg might say – probably Devon’s largest firework display starting at 7:15pm.”

And not to be out done King Edward VI Community College are holding their annual display on Friday 5 November 2010.

Again the extremely helpful baaaddad posts: “The main Redworth gates open at 6pm and parking is free to all.

“The bonfire will be lit promptly at 6:30pm followed by fireworks at 7pm.

“Entrance fee is £3 unless you’re a KEVICC’s student, OAP or a child where you’ll get a pound off.”

Moving on to all things Torquay United, local football fans will no doubt already know that the mighty Gulls are having a spectacular firework display at Plainmoor on Thursday November 4.

Palm FM are hosting the event and gates open from 6:15pm with fireworks to follow at 7:15pm.

As always make sure you buy your tickets early from the club reception to avoid disappointment (more details here).

Finally the good people at Sherwell Valley Primary School are putting on a firework display on Friday November 5.

Gates open at 6pm for a 7:15pm display and entry will only be possible from Upper Cockington Lane on to the junior playground.

Ticket prices are £3 for adults and £2 for children with an £8 family ticket available in advance only.

Well that completes the round up. If anyone knows of any hidden events actually going on in Paignton itself please post them on the site in the usual manner.

Also stay tuned to Paignton People next week where I will be posting a new article on buying fireworks in and around the town (if you can’t wait for that pop down to Savages or Austins Newsagents for some great deals).

We can always light up the skies of Paignton with our own displays!

Meeting up over a beer to discuss our community bonfire night plans sounds good. Who would like to meet- where and when?
