South Devon College and South Devon Athletic Club again join forces to bring a 10 kilometre Race and Fun Run to Devon’s road racing Calendar in Spring 2013.
The start and finish point is at South Devon College’s main campus Vantage Point, Long Road, Paignton. The race takes runners into the beautiful South Hams countryside along little known bridle paths and farm tracks, right down to the Mill Pond at Stoke Gabriel. With much of the route covering an area of outstanding natural beauty, the course has been described as ‘one of the most scenic 10ks in the South West’. The route encounters a couple of challenging hills and fair bit of mud, but there are significant downhill and flat stretches and stunning views and scenery.
This race is organised by South Devon College in association with South Devon Athletic Club. It offers a real life learning experience for sports and public services students who will all have roles to play on the day, whether it’s marshalling, time keeping or being part of the race day communications team. The race also raises funds to support the work of the Friends of South Devon College.
This is our fourth year and we’re trialling moving it to a Saturday late afternoon/early evening. The course remains the same – a fairly tough, but stunning 10k route. For those who came last year, you’ll know all about the fantastic free kids activities that we put on in the sports hall to keep them entertained during the main race, so it’s a really family friendly event with loads of free parking and homemade cakes!!! The fun run is ¾ mile and open to all. There will be medals to all fun runners.
