How can I find local work with a trusted employer for my 14 yr old son in the locality of Preston. Due to school commitments weekends are the only option. Does anyone out there know of others interested in this for their kids or possibly an employer keen to encourage young people to get a foot on the step ladder to work. Youngsters need to learn timekeeping, instruction, social interaction etc Any one out there with feedback?

What about a weekend paper round? That was one of my first jobs back in the day and helped me save up for trainers, clothes etc. Keeps you fit too!

I have the same problem for my 14 year old son, there are no opportunities out there for him, especially in the bay.

Grab a bucket and sponge and a chamois leather and bang on some doors offering to wash cars for a couple of quid a go. When I was 14 (back in the hey day of 1982) I had a weekend window cleaning round on my local estate in London. I was picking up around 20 quid for a few hours work on a Saturday morning which back then wasn't bad at all. This does of course involve having a ladder or at the very least having access to one. You may only start with a couple of houses in a road but once people see that you are regular and keen (and do a fair job) they soon start asking if you can fit them in too.
