This is not such an easy question because in this case a "Quid-pro-quo"
was expected.
I know how hard it is to save anything like what one has to pay
for quality cuisine in Torbay.
There is an imbalance between a microwaved reheat / boil-in-the-bag
budget deal bistro and the high end sit-down and wait and wait for a ****-bit just a bit longer style, where the constant refrain is "Is everything alright?" (from anxious / angry waiting staff )before being handed an enormous bill for one's patience.
the best I have been to is LA SCALA queens road, paignton. Owner/chef MAX and his team do a good job:- attentive service, good food in sensible portions and prices and a friendly atmosphere. A good choice for lovers of Italian food. Try the antipasta traditionale, the Vitello a la stile romana and the zabaglione.
I used to frequent La Scala, in Giovanni's days
when he offered early evening Choose Any 2 Course Specials
low lunch-time prices.
Now the prices match what ( ex Tqy. Rd ) Luigi's were.
But I agree the service & quality is now in a higher league.
By the way, "orsat" what was your Quid-Pro-Quo?
ok lokal1,
I am pushing LA SCALA because I want to keep open the last european restaurant in paignton. Since the orchard and backstage bistro closed in the past 2 years the only restaurants are asian. Nothing wrong with asian restaurants - I go to them ; however I like diversity and choice. This is my quid pro quo.
Thanks for the clarification.
My original question included the problem of how to return the favour on a like-for -like basis.. "QUID PRO QUO." ( without breaking the bank).
I do remember a local hotelier telling me that as 2 for 1 deals were on in town he could not make his meals economical for his hotel guests without just providing slops.
Is Pignton now just another seaside dump for lager louts with too many take-aways and no wholesome British restaurant left?
What happened to The "English Riviera?"
