Although I think Clennon Valley is a good leisure centre I think it's ridiculous that you have to pay for parking (even in the evenings!). If we're trying to encourage people in the area to play sports then let's make it as easy to partake as possible. I've started playing in the winter football league and it really adds up paying for parking each week. A lot of other leisure facilities have free parking. Come on council!

No doubt your team has to pay pitch fees surely the parking fees should be included in that fee, after all who these days goes to play a game without transport. What about the away team?

    Hearing this has incensed me!

If the council are to blame for this then they need to hang there heads in shame.

I appreciate you can't just have a free car park as it will be abused by holiday makers in the summer plus possibly members of TLC who aren't actually using the facilities but the simple way round it would be...

Members of the leisure centre park their car for free and have a car sticker in the window to prove this. They then go on to use the leisure centre (swimming, gym, astro turf etc.) and sign in at reception meaning their car is legally parked for the rest of their activity. Obviously you could start involving computer systems and swipe cards/barrier gates etc. but the basic principle would remain the same. Then it would be a decision if you could bring in extra revenue by having it as a normal pay and display car park for people who wanted to go to the beach/quaywest if those car parks get full etc.

Am I going mad here or did that used to be system in the past? Anyone remember that or can come up with a better idea?

I fully agree with thespintheif.. free parking for anyone who uses the leisure centre and then charge if they want to make extra money for people using it as a normal car park for the beach. I believe members of Clennon valley get free parking anyway.

I guess having to go in to collect a parking permit for that day would be a pain but if it meant no parking charges I am sure people would get used to it.

Torbay council say they have kept their council tax hikes low through good money management, this shows that they are using a stealth tax what a grubby lot of scroungers they are.

"Too much style and little substance" is a phrase I'd use to describe the council!

Why don't they at least give you some money off if you use the facilities. They do it at the ERC in Torquay. Why one rule for them and a different one for us Paigntonites?

Couldn't agree more. About everything - Torbay Council has let Torbay go to ruin in all sorts of ways. All they seem to do is make life more difficult for residents. This car park for example is definitely one that should be accessible for people other than members of the leisure centre. It's often empty - a total waste of space and a drain on people's dwindling finances...

Conservative Torbay Council - Councils are directed by Councillors. Those with political majority control it. You are able to identify the group of people who either do their best for you, or want to empty your pockets or whatever.
