People urged to call 999.
Police were called to Brixham Museum in Fishcombe Road at around 1.40pm today (Thursday 15 July) to reports of assaults on two members of the public.
Officers believe the man stole two weapons – a samurai-type sword and a dagger. Officers are unsure as to whether the suspect is still in possession of the weapons.
However, police are treating the man as dangerous and are appealing for any members of the public who may see anyone matching his description not to approach him but to call police on 999.
A police spokesman said: "The suspect is described as around 40-years-old, unshaven with short, fair hair. He is wearing a green t-shirt and blue cargo knee-length shorts. He is also thought to be wearing grey socks and trainers. He is thought to have blood stains on his clothing - the blood is thought to be his own."
Anyone who sees or who has seen this suspect is asked to call police immediately.
Police have carried out extensive searches of the nearby coastal areas including Churston and Broadsands but have yet to locate the man.
A number of officers are still deployed and searching for the man including dog sections and the police helicopter.
Firearms teams also remain in attendance and are involved in the search.
The scene of the incident is still being examined and remains cordoned off at this time.
The injuries to the victims are not thought to be serious and they received treatment from ambulance crews at the scene of the incident
