Wanderers keeping a firm grip on the Herald Cup silverware

WATCOMBE WANDERERS seem determined to hold onto the Herald Cup after thrashing Marldon 10-1, writes John Pearce.

Sean Finch hit three, while Ryan Finch (2), Mike Fieldhouse (2), Tamaik Wilson and Mike Summerfield completed the scoring. Anthony Roach scored a consolation goal for the guests.

Brixham United had to work hard against Dittisham United and were thankful for Jay Morgan's penalty to see them through.

Broadhempston United fielded a handful of reserves and made Upton Athletic also work for their 5-2 victory. Lewis Bergin nabbed a hat-trick, Nathan Dewdney and Ryan Little one apiece. United's replies were from Oner Cinenty and an own goal.

Galmpton United Reserves were another side to hit double figures with ten against Denbury Athletic. Sean Ripley and Jack Pollard led the way with three apiece, Scott Kaazikmae and Neil Stevens both bagging doubles.

Division Four leaders Foxhole United shocked East Allington United on their own patch, with Steve Bolus grabbing the only goal ten minutes from time.

Hookhills United continue their revival, overcoming Bovey Tracey Reserves 2-1 thanks to goals from Liam Scales and Craig Downing.

Teignmouth Reserves took extra-time to get past Brixham Villa who battled back from 3-1 down to gain the extra 30 minutes. Matt Love, Brendan Boddy and Matt Constable scored for Villa, Craig Breslan, Paul Tucker, Jamie Bowen and Terry Perriton, with the winner, netted for the visitors.

Ziggy Matthews and Sam Bruckner were Stoke Fleming's scorers as they eased past Paignton Saints.

Langdon led Buckland Athletic Reserves through Toto Whittle's goal, but eventually went down 3-1 to goals from Kain Bond (2) and Tom Armstrong.

Newton Abbot Spurs Reserves won well at Babbacombe Corinthians with Dan Brown and an own goal enough to see them through.

Rob Fricker netted twice to help Loddiswell Athletic through at Buckland & Milber whilst Waldon Athletic edged past Abbotskerswell on penalties in their clash.

Nathan Quant scored twice for Brixham Town as they swept aside Newton Abbot '66. Brookes, Cooper, Swindell and Chancellor also took singles in the 6-2 win with Rob Bishop and Neil King replying.

IN THE Fred Hewings Cup, WBB Reserves brushed aside Broadhempston Reserves but only after a good battle, Craig White with two for Wattsies.

Buckfastleigh Reserves and Babbacombe Reserves went all the way to penalties after being locked at 5-5, the Bucks getting through thanks to Martin Potter's winner.

Bovey Tracey Thirds went to Newton '66 Reserves and went home 2-0 winners, Mike Tapper and Steve Cooney with the goals.

Tom Birch's double was enough to give Stoke Gabriel Thirds an extra-time win at Chudleigh Reserves and Ashburton Reserves had veteran Steve Chivers' solitary goal getting them past Newton United Reserves.

Watcombe Wanderers Reserves progressed at Totnes & Dartington Thirds with goals from Jamie Carter and Dean Finch. Upton Reserves needed penalties but got past Paignton Villa Reserves eventually.

STAVERTON & Landscove missed the chance to climb the Premier table as they went down 5-3 at home to Kingskerswell & Chelston for whom Ollie Critchlow hit a treble. Stoke Gabriel Reserves were held 3-3 at home by Ipplepen Athletic.

Dartmouth Reserves rose to mid-table in Division One after coming from behind to beat Riviera Spurs 3-1. Danny Horsfall opened the scoring but the Darts replied through Mark Edmonds (2) and Josh Webber's stunning free-kick. Neil Last's hat-trick was a big factor for Hele Rovers as they thumped Buckfastleigh Rangers 6-1, Jon Devine also scored two.

New signing John McCreery struck three as Harbertonford left Beesands Rovers with all three division two points.

In Division Three, Moretonhampstead beat Meadowbrook Athletic 3-2 for their first win of the season. Chris Hower (2) and Christophe Farrera were on target for the hosts, while Mike and Richard Edwards scored for Athletic.

Peter Henderson, Rob Heaveran and Neil Vinecombe were on target for South Brent as they beat Liverton United Reserves 3-0 to go second.

Waldon Reserves go top after goals from Scott McKay and Dominic Brown saw them home 2-1 against Newton Spurs Thirds, who scored through Scott McArthur.

Roselands FC go second in Division Six on the back of a 4-1 win over Riviera United. Scholes, White, Andrews and Briggs scored their goals, Lucas replying.

David Kingwell contributed two as Kingsbridge & Kellaton United beat Ipplepen Thirds 3-1.

    I was at the Watcombe game and I see you have failed to mention that Marldon didn't have a goal keeper and could barely get 11 men - and actually ended up with 10 due to injury. Bit of a pointless and overdramatic story if you ask me?!
