Police warn of increased car theft in Torbay this summer.
Police in Torbay are warning residents and visitors to the bay to be vigilant following an increase in theft of valuables from vehicles.
Vehicle owners are being urged to ensure that they lock their doors and windows and remove all items of value, especially when visiting local beauty spots where it can often be isolated.
Sgt Gaynor Bell warns: "It takes only seconds for an opportune thief to break into a vehicle to steal valuable items left on display. The thief is gone before anyone around realises that the crime has taken place. What's of particular interest to the opportune thief is Sat Navs and mobile phones as these can be easily sold on.
"Please be mindful to park your vehicle in a safe place. Thieves will break into a vehicle if they see loose change, Sat Navs, coats, mobiles phones, bags, luggage and any other potential items of value."
Police will be carrying out covert and proactive patrols in the area.
If anyone sees any suspicious activity or is aware of anyone selling goods at a cheap price, please call Devon and Cornwall Police on 08452 777 444.
