STAFF at a Paignton opticians have been celebrating after clocking up 15 years of service to the local community.
To celebrate staff at Specsavers Paignton decorated the store with a spec-tacular balloon arch, and welcomed guests for tea, coffee and cakes as well as soft drinks and sweets.
David Furby, store director of Specsavers Paignton, says: 'I have been with Specsavers for 15 years, all of those as director of Paignton and it's been great to guide the store towards this landmark. We're proud to be part of the Paignton community and hope to continue providing a high level of service.'
Since opening in January 1997, the number of staff has increased from eight to 15 after an expansion in 2006. The expansion increased the number of testing rooms from two to three.
The store has invested heavily in optical equipment over the years including a state-of-the-art digital camera, which captures images of the back of the eye. These digital retinal photographs can be used in the detection and monitoring of a number of potentially harmful conditions.
The service is offered as part of a routine eye examination to anyone aged over 40, or when a GP or optometrist recommends it.
The opticians currently serves more than 500 customers a week, hosts a bespoke hearing centre and on-site lab. It also caters for disabled customers with an access ramp.
