How to keep fit and live healthily in Paignton this 2012.

Yes it's that time of year again. The Christmas and New Year hangover has well and truly gone (hopefully!) and it's time to get fit and healthy in 2012.

If it's your main aim to get super fit this year and maybe make a late charge to enter the London Olympics (think the GB handball team are still looking for people) or you just want to simply lose a few pounds after all that turkey, turkey curry, turkey sandwiches… Then Paignton has plenty to offer with gym memberships, fitness classes, plus relaxing foot spas that may include nibbling fish!

If you're searching for a top quality gym then look no further than Torbay Leisure Centre.

They have a large 55-station gym with adjoining sauna, steam room and spa, plus put on a number of weekly group fitness classes.

Highlights include the Body Pump class which is run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays by instructor Laura in the Minor Hall.

Body Pump is the fastest way to shape up and lose fat. It's a toning and conditioning class, using weights, and you can book onto this course and others (including Aquafit, Circuits and Spinning) by calling 01803 522240.

Another excellent local gym is the Oasis Leisure Club housed in the popular Beverly Park Holiday Camp in Paignton.

They have a fully equipped gym with treadmills, exercise bikes, cross trainers, weights and more, plus boast a tropically heated indoor pool!

Membership packages are available for local residents from just £17.50 per month. You can choose a three month, six month or yearly membership, and there is currently a special offer of: "Pay for 12 months membership in full and receive the 1st month free!"

Please call 01803 844033 for more details.

If you're looking for something a little different this year then why not try a Boxercise class run by Fighting Fit Devon.

Boxercise is a fantastic way to get fit and toned, lose weight and rid yourself of stress. It is non-physical contact exercise, so if you wanted to try Kickboxing but don't want to actually compete, then Boxercise is for you.

Classes are held at Marldon Village Hall on Wednesdays and Saturdays, priced at £5 per session. Call 07792 722359 or email debbie@fightingfitdevon.co.uk to get involved.

The Christmas/New Year period can be a very stressful time, so if you don't really feel like you've had any time to yourself over the festive season, then why not get in touch with the New Devon Clinic on Hyde Road and try one of their stress management packages.

Stress management can help with the physical and emotional symptoms of stress and experts at the clinic can design personal packages for you that may include talking therapies such as hypnotherapy and CBT, through to hands on therapies such as massage, Bowen Technique, reflexology, Reiki and acupuncture.

Please call the clinic on 01803 500300 to discuss your individual needs.

Finally, going back to those nibbling fish… Paignton's first and only dedicated Garra fish foot spa – Nibbles Natures Wonder in Crossways Shopping Centre – invites customers to: "Let the fish make you and your feet feel so much better!"

Fish pedicures are a popular and fun way to sooth and relax your tired feet. Nibbles have three two-seater spas and guarantee that after treatment you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated – plus want to come back for more!

Check out their website for more details on the treatment process.
