The £4.8million junction improvement scheme at Tweenaway Cross, Paignton is due to be completed this week (Thursday 14 July).
-
Tweenaway, Paignton set to be finished on Thursday.
The new signals will be switched on in the evening of Thursday 14 July to ensure that the junction is fully operational by the morning of Friday 15 July.
The funded scheme increased capacity to improve traffic flows through the junction and reduce congestion.
Extra lanes have been created on Totnes Road, Kings Ash Road and Brixham Road on the approach to the junction. Additional islands have also been provided to improve pedestrian crossings at the junction - which is used by a large number of school children.
The existing traffic signals have been replaced and the carriageway through the junction has been resurfaced.
Further works will take place in the autumn to widen the Totnes Road between the zoo car park and the Noah's Ark public house to avoid the busy summer period, although most of this work will be carried out off the highway and is not expected to cause significant disruption.
The contractor will remain on site for a further few weeks to carry out minor works off the highway.
Comments
I thought this work was supposed to start again in September, to widen the last bit coming out of Paignton, this needs doing urgently, as the tailbacks on this part of the road are still high, with the third lane only being available for 3 cars.
