Howitt nabs sweepstake out of captain's clutches

DARTMOUTH angler Andy Howitt scooped the on-board sweepstake with a specimen pollock while out over the mid-Channel wrecks.

Outlaw skipper Owen Mallia had taken a group out in search of big winter fish and they were not disappointed.

Mallia thought his 18lbs-plus pollock caught on a Redgill Evo lure was a surefire sweepstake winner, until Howitt hauled in his 21lbs 2oz pollock, caught on a rhubarb and custard sidewinder lure.

Outlaw regular Harry White from Moretonhampstead get involved with fish on practically every other drift throughout his day's fishing.

Welsh rugby international John Yapp returned for another outing on Outlaw with pal Leon Draper and both caught some good-sized pollock.

Mallia is clearly popular with Welsh visitors as he recently took a contingent from Aberdare wreck fishing in the Channel.

Pollock, ling and cod were the target fish, although all on board were surprised when a 3lb bass came to the hook.

IN a quiet week for returns at Paignton SAA, Keith Nathan caught a pout of 1-11-14 from a Berry Head shore mark.

However, officials have been busy compiling the full list of trophy winners for the last competition year.
