Continental market in the centre of Paignton

A continental market is being held in the centre of Paignton from Today, Thursday July 14, until Sunday.
Victoria Street is lined with stalls from across the continent selling fresh produce, sweets, jewellery, ornaments, clothes and more.
Among the stalls are a creperie, fresh baguettes, Dutch donuts, German sausages, French cheeses, Italian nougats, olives and waffles.
Traders in the town centre say they have seen an increase in the numbers of people coming through even on the first day, and shoppers are enjoying trying new tastes.

ReportIt's good to see Victoria Street busy, and if these stalls bring people into the town centre, then surely that's a good spin-off for the other shops.

ReportThing is about these markets are, that they don't only have to be continental. Although this one it seems is. Local producers and small independants can use these markets to get their wares sold.So it is good not only as an attraction for tourist but it's good for locals who cannot afford a shop to rent. Far from being bad for the shops in the vincinity the markets make for extra footfall in the area. More so if the shops take advantage by putting on good window displays and good range of goods. Variety is as they say the spice of life so is competion for sharpening up the approach of selling.

ReportIf it's the same company as ran the market in Torquay it will be a basic rip-off as most of the food stu*** are easily available, and a lot cheaper, in your local supermarket. Also I'm curious how the stall holder get round the food hygeine laws.

ReportIf it's anything like the one in Torquay, where a loaf of bread was £3.50, I for one will not be going there. As far as I can see, it's just an excuse to put prices up, in the name of posey food! I blame these middle-class cookery TV programmes you know! ;)
